Synopsis

It promised to be a regular, ordinary flight when the crew and passengers boarded Air France flight 139 on June 27, 1976. But that was about to change when the plane stopped in Athens en route from Tel Aviv to Paris. Four people, including Germans Wilfried Böse ( Daniel Brühl ) and Brigitte Kuhlmann ( Rosamund Pike ) and two members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, arrived, knowing and intending that the plane would not reach its destination. Instead, the plane will be diverted to Uganda. If the Palestinian prisoners’ demands are not released, the kidnappers threaten, that the hostages will be killed one by one. While Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin (Lior Ashkenazi ) is still struggling to find a peaceful solution, Secretary of Defense Shimon Peres ( Eddie Marsan ) urges the army to free the hostages – despite the high risks.

Hardly any plane hijacking was more spectacular, burned into the collective memory as clearly as that of the Air France machine in 1976. No wonder that over time there has been a whole series of films that have wanted to approach this event – be it in the documentary or fictional field. In view of the great historical competition, the question inevitably arises with 7 Days in Entebbe: Why should I watch the new adaptation? Is the story still relevant more than 40 years later?

When the passenger plane was hijacked in 1976, the world held its breath. You don’t have to go quite that far with the retelling of “7 Days in Entebbe“, but the thriller is quite exciting in parts. However, the film lacks in many places and is often amazingly clumsy. As nice as it is to refine the black and white drawing of the two sides with nuances, the result is not very convincing. Above all, the random dialogues and clumsily conveyed conclusions clearly reduce the pleasure.
