Close to the Horizon

So far, the life of 18-year-old Jessica ( Luna Wedler ) had actually been very regular. She still lives with her parents and helps out in their catering business, which she will take over later, that’s more or less certain. But then her entire world is turned upside down when one day she runs into Danny ( Jannik Schürmann ), who is two years older than her and is earning a lot of money with his modeling career. After some initial misunderstandings, Jessica realizes that he is the man of her life. However, she has no idea that he is harboring some dark secrets that are overshadowing young happiness…

It’s always tragic when people have to die young. Especially when a relationship comes to an untimely end as a result, which actually – so the impression – should last forever. The filmmakers of Close to the Horizon know that too, of course, which is why titles in which exactly that happens come out on the market with greater or lesser regularity. The great classic is surely Love Story, which left a lot of broken hearts in 1970. In recent years, for example, it was Fate is a lousy traitor and Three Steps to You caused tissue consumption to skyrocket.

When two young people whose happiness is limited from the start fall in love with one another in “Close to the Horizon“, it’s a frontal assault on the tear duct. The film relies too much on the sledgehammer method, saving on detailed work, which is why something rarely seems natural or lifelike. However, the bestseller adaptation is saved by the two young talents.
