Encouraged by the success she had on her first case, Enola Holmes ( Millie Bobby Brown ) decides to turn her passion into a career and open her detective agency. Unfortunately, nobody believes that the young girl is capable of chasing down criminals on her own. The shadow of her older brother Sherlock Holmes ( Henry Cavill ), who became famous as a private detective, is also too big. Just as Enola is about to throw in the towel, the girl Bessie Chapman ( Serranna Su-Ling ) shows up at her house. Her older sister Sarah ( Hannah Dodd) had disappeared. The first lead leads the young detective to a match factory where the two sisters worked and where several deaths have recently occurred…

Enola Holmes 2 was supposed to be in the cinema but ended up on a streaming service. That was not uncommon in 2020, the first year of the corona pandemic. The chances of success to earn money with a regular start were too small. Not all decisions made at the time were correct in retrospect. At least for Enola Holmes, however, the platform change was worth it: The adventure thriller, which was briefly converted into a Netflix original, was one of the most watched in the history of the video-on-demand provider. No wonder, then, that work on a successor began comparatively quickly. A little over two years later, there is a reunion with the Holmes clan, who fight in their way for a fairer world.

While the title character, her famous brother Sherlock and their mother are back to take part in the second adventure, Mycroft has to be dispensed with as his actor Sam Claflin was unable to appear. That’s a shame since the dynamics within the family were one of the strengths of the debut. On the other hand, Enola Holmes 2 approaches the famous stories of Arthur Conan Doyle differently, although two names that were missing the first time appear briefly. There is no direct template this time. The predecessor was still based on a novel by Nancy Springer, who has written a whole series on Enola Holmes, this time it is an original development. Just with two sources of inspiration.
