When it comes to squeezing fresh money out of old successes, Disney is not so easy to fool. When it’s not the turn of one of the various endless franchises, classics are either remade or continued. In this respect, it is no wonder that Hocus Pocus would also be in line at some point. The film was anything but successful in cinemas at the time. Later, the fantasy comedy about three witch sisters became a cult film thanks to regular TV broadcasts, which for many is simply a part of Halloween. At Hocus Pocus 2 the mouse empire didn’t have such high standards, which is why the sequel isn’t even coming to the cinemas. Instead, Disney+ should be fed its streaming service in time for the Halloween season.
You shouldn’t have any greater expectations of the optics. It’s quite clearly made here on a lower budget than you might expect from a movie. But the occupation succeeded in a coup. The actors and actresses who were seen on the hero side of the first part did not all make it into the new edition. But the three witches are back and are making Salem unsafe again in Hocus Pocus 2. That’s good news because their actresses were the pinnacle of Hocus Pocus. Above all, a grandiosely exaggerated Bette Milder ( The incredible kidnapping of crazy Mrs. Stone) made sure that even in the face of approaching death the good mood didn’t want to let up.
