Movie Review

When the mechanic Lino ( Alban Lenoir ) regains consciousness in the hospital, the policewoman Julia ( Stéfi Celma ) does not have good news for him. Both the corrupt policeman Areski ( Nicolas Duvauchelle ), who killed the former police chief Charas, and his partner Marco ( Sébastien Lalanne ), the murderer of Lino’s younger brother Quentin, have disappeared without a trace. A few months later, Lino recovered from his serious injuries. But he just can’t get over the fact that the two criminals got away with it. And so he decides to send Stella ( Anne Serra) to keep a close eye on, Areski’s wife, although the police strongly advise against it. At first, the waiting seems to remain without result. But then one day Stella gets a visit from three men…

When Netflix launched the French action thriller Lost Bullet in June 2020, it obviously enjoyed greater popularity. Around 15 months after the debut, filming for the sequel began. Almost a year later, it is now available and tries to build on past successes. At least in terms of content, he does Lost Bullet 2 connects directly to the events of the predecessor. The story told here is a direct reaction to that of the first part, when Lino hunts down the murderers of his brother and mentor. Otherwise, some well-known characters appear who were there last time. So it’s an advantage if you’ve seen the film at the time and can better understand why the protagonist behaves the way he does.

In principle, however, it is also possible to skip the predecessor and get right in the middle of it. Because even if the stories of the two films are closely related, they are so thin that you can safely ignore them. Director Guillaume Pierret and leading actor Alban Lenoir ( Bigbug ), who wrote the screenplay together, once again do not shine with narrative ambitions. Basically Lost Bullet 2 is a pretty random revenge thriller in which the main character wants to suspect an unpunished crime and doesn’t have any overly great scruples. The only thing that complicates the story is that it all takes place in the context of a corrupt police force, which makes distinguishing between good and bad a bit more difficult.
