It’s been ten years since Jess (Scarlett Johansson), Alice (Jillian Bell), Blair (Zoë Kravitz), and Frankie (Ilana Glazer) banged it out together at college. A lot has changed since then, and the women often didn’t see each other during this time. Luckily, Jess’s wedding is just around the corner, so it’s the perfect chance for a reunion. In beautiful Miami, the girls have rented a beach house for the weekend for a bachelorette party.
Arriving in Miami, they meet Jess’ Australian friend Pippa (Kate McKinnon), who immediately creates an awkward mood as she is a thorn in Alice’s side in particular. Gallons of booze and lots of cocaine bring the mood back, so the women hire a stripper for Jess. When they are ready for their lap dance, a tragic incident occurs. By some stupid coincidence, the stripper dies and the nervous and stumbling chicken pile is in the middle of the shit.
True to the tagline “The hangover is the least of your worries”, Rough Night not only chews through that film series but also adds a touch of coarseness. A shovel too many, because Lucia Aniello’s comedy is just too stupid to entertain, and the jokes are clumsy and almost without exception copied. That the main characters are all played by talented actresses is more or less refreshing, but neither she nor her fans get much out of it.
